This course provides a programme of further education containing practical competence based training with appropriate underpinning knowledge. The course is directed at learners wishing to pursue a career in Engineering by providing a pathway qualification at level 3. This can lead on to the Level 4/Level 5 Engineering, employment and /or apprenticeships.

What will I Study?

Participants will be attached to the relevant industries to do 5 days/week on the job training (OJT) and attend 5 hours/ week classroom learning and practical assignments.

  • The course offers a broad range of practical skills supported by the underpinning knowledge gained through the International Vocational Qualification (IVQ) technical diploma element of the course in the key areas of Engineering • Engineering health and safety • Engineering principles • • Principles of Electrical & Electronics Engineering • Mechatronics systems principles and fault finding • Power supply, and analogue and digital circuit principles and fault • Electronic power control and principles. The development of your personalized enterprise passport and enrichment activities fully enhance this course.

SPM holder with good credits in Additional Mathematics, Physics and English.

How will I be taught?

The Centre will supply all tools & equipment in the training areas but under Health & Safety it is mandatory to wear a pair of overalls, safety footwear or strong leather shoes (no trainers). The safety boots & overalls are not supplied by the center. You will also require writing equipment, A4 lined paper & a large ring binder for a ‘Portfolio’. All students are required to keep & maintain a Portfolio containing ALL evidence of achieving competence.

How will I be assessed?

As with all City & Guilds courses a number of assessment methods are used. The assessment of all units is continuous and normally includes some practical, multiple choice and written exam. Each portfolio of completed work is also externally assessed by City & Guilds.
